• The Labor Party (PT) presents a new bill on ozone therapy.
  •  The initiative “promotes scientific research and allows professionals to specialize in new complementary therapies.”
  •  “The proposal does not imply additional expenses for the State.”

Labor Party (PT) deputies Hugo Alday Nieto, Diana Frine Gutiérrez García, and Rubén Antonio Carrillo Buenfil presented a new legislative bill “to amend Article 72 of the Quintana Roo State Health Law, to recognize and regulate the practice of ozone therapy as a certified professional medical and technical activity.” This would allow “ozone therapy to be applied under scientific standards and by certified professionals, guaranteeing patient safety.”

The proponents emphasize that their purpose is “to enable educational and health authorities to exercise adequate oversight and control over this medical practice, ensuring that only professionals with recognized training can perform it, thus strengthening compliance with the Health Law in the state.”

They also point out that the proposal “promotes scientific research and allows professionals to specialize in new complementary therapies, always within the framework of the Health Law.”

They specify that “the proposal does not imply additional expenditure for the State, but rather seeks to regulate and supervise, in a normative manner, a medical practice already existing in private and academic settings.”

The previous project on ozone therapy from 2020 failed to reach a successful conclusion.

Three states in the Mexican Republic have already incorporated ozone therapy into their legislation.

Bill in the Senate of the Mexican Republic

At the federal level, the fourth attempt to regulate ozone therapy throughout Mexico is underway. The first (2014) was rejected by the Ministry of Health, alleging without any justification that “ozone is a toxic gas with no standardized use in medicine.”

The 2017 and 2021 bills were shelved because the legislative session ended.

Legal Status of Ozone Therapy Worldwide

It is regulated in 16 countries, either throughout their entire territory or in some of them.
